Gateway Veterinary Clinic is looking for a full-time experienced veterinary technician to join our busy 7 doctor AAHA accredited practice. Our ideal candidate is a compassionate, dependable, self-motivated individual with a positive attitude who can multi-task efficiently and enjoys working both independently and as part of a team. General duties include, but are not limited to - Assist doctors in appointments, input charges and start medical notes - Check in drop offs (obtain history and other pertinent information from client, obtain vitals) and ensure diagnostics/treatments are performed per doctor's orders - Monitor and treat sick pets (including giving medications by mouth and injections SQ, I M, and IV under doctor direction) - Take radiographs and manage patient treatments - Venipuncture for both cats a nd dogs - IV catheter placement - Maintain appropriate inventory of all supplies as dictated by the inventory control system. Follow protocols for noting when items need to be ordered - Receive, unbox, price and rotate stock of inventory - Ensure a clean environment including outside grounds, exams room and treatment areas - Educate clients on patient care - Maintain AAHA standards Surgical duties include, but are not limited to, All above stated general duties plus: - Create treatment plans for surgical procedures and discuss procedure protocols with clients - Calculate and administer anesthetic medications - Intubation - Maintain pet under anesthesia using Isoflurane gas - Monitor anesthetic patients and is knowledgeable of possible warning signs that may occur during surgery - Prep patients for surgical procedures - Dental prophylaxis (scaling with ultrasonic scaler, probing/charting, and taking digital dental radiographs) - Monitor patients after anesthesia to ensure safe and smooth recovery - Discharge surgical patients to clients, including reviewing at home care and medications if needed with clients - Cleaning surgical instruments, surgery room, dental suite - Maintain surgical, dental, and anesthetic equipment and arrange for service when needed Requirements - At least 1 - 2 years experience in surgical assistance, dental prophylaxis and anesthesia monitoring is required - Knowledge of gas anesthetic machines, monitors (pulse ox, ECG, BP, CapnoStat), dental machine, dental and whole body digital x-rays - Must be able to work 35-40 h ours per week and are available 7am - 8pm - Able to work some Saturdays 7:30am - 2pm - Shifts range from 6 - 8 hours on days when assigned general technician work, 12 hours when scheduled for surgical days (1 or 2 days each week) - Knowledge of Cornerstone Software and Idexx in-house laboratory equipment is a bonus, but not required.
