Position Summary:

The Data & BI Analyst I is accountable for providing actionable insights to support business outcomes. They work in partnership with other analysts and stakeholders on the formulation of appropriate analytic approach to solve ambiguous business problems.

Essential Functions:

1. Maintain a working knowledge of division results & key divisional business drivers, as well as an expertise of key strategies & priorities of their division, to be able to apply business knowledge to analytic approach to address business questions.

2. Build and maintain a working knowledge of data sets available to the analyst. Extract, cleanse and transform data to support the needs of the analysis. Pressure test and validate reason and outputs against known sources and knowledge of business.

3. Define business and data requirements for analytic deliverables and serve as liaison with IDM process.

4. Know and apply basic descriptive statistical concepts.

5. Provide actionable insights to help business outcomes, primarily by performing root cause, exploratory, reactivity and scenario, economic modeling, and data visualization to identify patterns/trends/insights etc. on predefined problems

6. Generate and incorporate insights into a cohesive story that clearly addresses business questions. Effectively communicate analytic ideas, approach, key takeaways and actionable insights and technical information to non-technical audiences.

7. Develop and manage business relationships with project team members and managers across the organization. Consult with business owners to understand the business problem. Partner with others to identify the appropriate analytic approach to solve the problem.

8. Document, monitor, and proactively recommend improvements to processes and controls related to areas of responsibility.

9. Quantify the impact of process improvement, propose solutions to relevant parties and drive implementation of solutions with help from managers. Support KPI and benchmark development.

10. Interact with BI Tools and BI Products, answer questions, build low to moderately complex visualizations and reports and follows BI governance process and procedures.

Functional Knowledge:

- Requires conceptual knowledge of theories, practices, and procedures within a job discipline

- Proven analytical, critical and systems thinking required

- Experience interacting with database and file storage systems (e.g. Oracle, Hadoop, NoSQL)

- Ability to use tools to access and transform data, some statistics, economic modeling, exploratory analysis, and variance analysis required

Leadership:

- Accountable for own contributions

Problem Solving:

- Uses existing procedures to solve standard problems; analyze information and standard practices to make judgements

- Solves problems in straightforward situations; analyzes possible solutions using technical experience, judgement, and precedents

- The Analyst must have ability to identify the question(s), what data is needed, and then examine and interpret the results for business owners & managers in a clear, concise manner. Assist with the implementation of agreed upon solutions as well as ensure proper expertise within affected business area, partner well with associates and leadership within the department (and potentially firm leadership and/or external vendors) is necessary

- Has limited impact on own work team; works within standardized procedures and practices to achieve goals and meet deadlines

- Ability to accurately assess risk and prioritize work

- Performs structured analysis for divisional/department managers typically with low complexity

- Works with divisions throughout the firm to aid the strategic outcome-making processes

- Coordinate with others to accomplish tasks and meet deadlines will be required

- This position requires a knowledge of how departments/divisions interact with one another and impact operations and initiatives at the divisional level

Interpersonal Skills:

  • 1 to 3 years of experience preferred Education Required:
    • Bachelor's Degree in relevant field (or relevant work experience)
