incentivesGeneral PurposeResponsible for the management of the
day-to-day activities on the production floor. Accountable for the
safety, quality, productivity, and material handling for assigned
shift. The position requires efficient use of labor, materials,
machines and the business system to ensure lowest possible
cost/production efficiency. In addition, the Shift Leader will seek
out opportunities to improve already established manufacturing
practices and become a sounding board for production floor issues
and participate in management leadership meetings as needed.
Responsible for facilitating an environment and culture focused on
a commitment to safety and housekeeping; which will reflect the
commitment to working towards an injury-free environment.
Essential Duties and Tasks
- Support an environment of Honesty, Candidness & Transparency,
Teamwork.
- Comply with all Safety, Operational and Employment policies and
practices.
- Follow quality requirements to meet or exceed
specifications.
- Support the Process Lead in activities to include analysis of
departmental costs, investigation of significant variances,
corrective actions and keeping production informed of actions
taken.
- Manage, coordinate and assist with the activities of all hourly
employees on assigned shift.
- Manage all production activities for assigned shift. Schedule
shift employees and ensure crew is fully manned to cover vacations,
absences and minimize overtime by utilizing your staff
appropriately.
- Build and maintain productive employee relationships while
driving employee satisfaction. Provide direction, coaching,
counseling and review disciplinary action with the Operations
Manager.
- Understand what each machine requires to operate efficiently
and effectively.
- Ensure that your shift is following protocols set in place by
the quality department pertaining to documentation and cleaning
procedures.
- Understand the different defects to help assist rectifying
issues within the shift.
- Ensure crew is producing a quality product that meets the
specifications and expectations of the plant's quality objectives,
the customer's expectations and managements' quality
statement.
- Ensure all required shift documentation, such as production
reports, are filled out completely and turned in daily.
- Ensure that all employees conduct themselves in a manner that
is conducive for safety. Take the initiative to ensure that the
floors are clean and cleared at all times and that waste is not
over flowing onto the floor which could result in an accident.
- Maintain required Good Manufacturing Practices and 5S
Compliance.
- Possess intuitive abilities to anticipate inefficiencies and
bring constructive solutions in advance.
- Demonstrate sound judgment, good interpersonal and strong
leadership skills.
- Overall supervision of department activities and
personnel.
- Ensure subordinates are trained and competent to comply with
product quality and food safety requirements.Qualifications,
Education and Experience
- 2-3 years' supervisory or related experience.
- Experience working in a continuous improvement
environment.
- Metric driven.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop individuals and
teams.
- Trouble shooting/problem solving skills
- Experience managing within an ISO/SQF certified environmentKey
