Route Business 31, South Elgin, IL 60177The primary objective of this role is to achieve safety, volume/share, price and earnings objectives for the market area. The Area Manager of Resale Operations is responsible for the full resale operation including Safety, Sales, Operations, Community Relations, Environmental and Marketing.Oversee masonry and landscape sales & marketing at a defined location in a market as well as effectively organizing and managing the retail landscape center. In addition, the AM is responsible for operation of the Clean Construction Demolition Dump (CCDD). This individual attempts to maximize profitability by developing a strategy to optimize sales and cost control, understand customer segmentation, optimize product balance, utilize zones of natural advantage, establish key customer relationships, influence key market specifiers, manage market shares, interpret general trends in the economic environment and embrace best practice management tools and frameworks.This individual is also responsible for understanding current EPA regulations relating to CCDD operation. These include a detailed budget for his/her location outlining monthly sales expectations by product type. The A.M. is responsible for all masonry and landscape sales & marketing activities at his/her location. This includes customer relations, project management, specifier management, and systematic collection of market intelligence. Promote Holcim retail yard and CCDD as an environment that is customer friendly and well maintained.ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities:

  • Demonstrates a commitment to communicating, improving, and adhering to safety policies in all work environments and areas. Ensures all aspects of his/her role are executed in a safe manner. Obeys safety guidelines when on construction sites and Holcim operations.
  • Responsible for profit and loss (P&L) and profitability of the business.
  • Completes the annual Marketing Plan, based on the market segmentation. Action plans are completed, executed and tracked by the sales and marketing team. Continuously monitors competitor and other market activities. Continuously looks to grow the Decorative Stone business in other market areas.
  • Identifies and understands current and unmet needs for existing and potential customers and translates into sales opportunities. Understands, communicates and captures the value of products and services to the customer. Establishes effective relationships with the customers; based on quality products, services and convenience. Determines the volume, price, freight and other supply-related details for existing and potential customers (and customer segments).
  • Identify the source of competitive supply into the respective territory. Understand and communicate the quality of products, services, and resources employed by relevant competitors. Continuously monitor competitor activity, communicate and recommend any necessary actions.
  • Proactively track and manage construction activity in the territory. Understand existing product specifications, identify and recommend opportunities. Identify relevant issues that may affect product supply. Understand Holcims current market position and continuously monitor the same. Represent Holcim on industry-related committees & associations.
  • Based on backlog and market intelligence, develops accurate forecasting and action plans to meet targets. Tracks and interprets market indicators (i.e. construction starts, building permits, housing sales) in order to understand key drivers of market demand.
  • Document & communicate customer complaints and work with the Customer Service team to ensure they are addressed in a timely and effective manner. Communicate when Holcim exceeds customer expectations. Work closely with Customer Service, Sales, Operations and other internal personnel to promote an effective work environment. Maintains a high quality image and reputation in the market place. Ensures compliance with all laws and company guidelines and policies.
  • Responsible for generating right-first-time invoices through effective utilization of the quotation/billing system (ERP/Q2C), utilization of various sales tools (i.e. zone maps, systematic pricing) and coordination with other sales and customer service personnel. The AM will directly enter quotations and perform error resolution at the quote level.
  • The Area Manager is ultimately responsible for customer account aging and collections
  • Works with area operations team to evaluate capital needs and prioritize accordingly. Assists in requests for capital and project management.
  • Reviews key operational data monthly to identify trends and variances
  • Works with market area operational teams, other product lines and regions to develop new initiatives to reduce operational costs and/or improve Holcims relative competitive position.Specific Accountabilities:

        • An undergraduate degree in business or engineering, or significant industry experience
        • 5+ years of relevant work experience
        • Knowledge of construction industry is an asset, but not essential
        • Strong customer focus

        • Strong work ethic, problem solving and analytical skills
