Job Description:
General Summary The nurse manager is responsible for the overall
assessment, planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation
of patient care services within the Intensive Care Units (ICU),
Hemodialysis, and Respiratory Therapy departments. This role
provides leadership for nursing and non-nursing personnel, ensuring
high-quality, safe, and patient-centered care while maintaining
operational efficiency. The manager oversees patient care delivery,
staff management and development, patient flow, regulatory
compliance, and the physical and professional environment of care
areas. The role requires close collaboration with patients,
families, physicians, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams to
achieve optimal clinical outcomes. Organizational Mission and

Primary Responsibilities and Duties Leadership and Operations Serve
as a role model for professional practice and leadership within
nursing and allied health departments. Supervise ICU, Hemodialysis,
and Respiratory Therapy departments. Ensure compliance with
hospital policies, departmental procedures, and regulatory
standards, including infection control, safety, and restraint
policies. Respond appropriately to emergency situations (e.g., Code
Blue, Code Orange, Code Triage). Collaborate with the VP of Patient
Care Services to coordinate patient care delivery and ensure
compliance with core measures. Provide daily operational, quality,
and administrative updates to senior leadership. Staffing and
Workforce Management Oversee staffing assignments for current and
oncoming shifts, ensuring appropriate coverage based on patient
acuity, productivity, and HFAP standards. Adhere to staffing grids
to meet clinical and financial expectations. Interview, hire,
orient, and onboard new employees. Facilitate staff orientation,
mentoring, and ongoing competency development. Complete timely
performance evaluations and provide written feedback on employee
performance. Address inappropriate behavior constructively and
support professional development. Patient Care and Clinical
Excellence Advocate for patients and families, ensuring effective
communication and education for diverse age groups and populations,
including those with physical, emotional, cognitive, social, or
language barriers. Assist staff in prioritizing care delivery and
adapting to changing patient needs. Serve as a clinical expert,
resource, and preceptor as needed. Collaborate with medical
directors, physicians, ethics committees, and spiritual care teams
regarding end-of-life care, DNR orders, and advance directives.
Quality, Safety, and Risk Management Participate in quality
improvement initiatives, quality indicator studies, and customer
service initiatives. Develop and submit quality, safety, and
performance reports as required. Report risk management issues
promptly to leadership and the Risk Management Department.
Participate in Shared Decision-Making Councils and co-lead
improvement projects. Communication and Collaboration Maintain
effective interdisciplinary communication with physicians, nursing
leadership, and allied health professionals. Conduct and lead
monthly department staff meetings. Promote a culture of customer
service excellence through routine rounding and proactive issue
resolution. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong leadership,
clinical judgment, and decision-making skills. Demonstrated ability
to manage complex operations in a fast-paced healthcare
environment. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer
service skills. Ability to work independently, initiate projects,
and achieve results. Strong organizational, analytical, and
critical-thinking abilities. Proficient computer skills, including
electronic health records and reporting systems. Ability to
maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion with sensitive
information. Education, Licensure, and Certification Graduate of an
accredited school of nursing. Current Registered Nurse (RN) license
in the State of Illinois. Current CPR and ACLS certification.
Compliance with PPD and employee health requirements. Experience
Requirements Minimum of two (2) years of nursing experience in an
acute care hospital setting. Prior experience in intensive care
nursing preferred. Leadership or supervisory experience strongly
