Job Description Job Description Cardiology - Physician - Academic Leadership Opportunity The Co-Director of Cardiology at our organization plays a pivotal role in providing strategic, clinical, and operational guidance for the Heart & Vascular Service Line. Our organization , located in Chicago, is seeking applications for the role of Co-Director of the Heart & Vascular Service Line . This is a remarkable leadership opportunity within a distinguished medical community recognized annually for its excellence in patient care, medical advancements, and clinical expertise. The Co-Director will collaborate closely with the Surgical Co-Director and Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) to provide strategic, clinical, and operational leadership throughout the Heart & Vascular Service Line. This role is crucial for guiding program development, ensuring clinical excellence, and enhancing patient care across various settings. The Co-Director will also co-chair the Heart & Vascular Executive Steering Committee, ensuring alignment of strategy, quality, and clinical innovation with the organization’s overarching goals. This position encompasses both administrative and clinical responsibilities. Key Responsibilities: Oversee all operations within the Heart & Vascular service line in partnership with the Surgical Co-Director and CAO. Formulate, implement, and assess the clinical vision, strategy, and objectives of the service line in alignment with the organization’s mission. Lead initiatives for program planning, growth, and performance improvement across inpatient and outpatient environments. Ensure the development and implementation of policies and procedures that guarantee high-quality cardiovascular care. Share accountability for the service line’s budget and financial performance. Strategic & Operational Leadership Collaborate on all Heart & Vascular service line operations with the Surgical Co-Director and CAO. Develop and monitor the service line’s clinical vision and strategy in line with organizational objectives. Lead system-wide program planning and performance improvement efforts. Oversee the creation and execution of policies ensuring consistent, high-quality cardiovascular care. Maintain shared accountability for budget management and financial performance. Clinical & Program Oversight Direct and coordinate cardiology-related clinical activities in collaboration with the Department of Internal Medicine and Division of Cardiology. Provide oversight for medical and program directors, ensuring operational excellence in clinical services. Lead the development of innovative clinical programs and technologies to improve patient access and outcomes. Manage ambulatory and inpatient operations, including quality improvement and patient safety. Maintain a part-time clinical practice within the Division of Cardiology, balancing administrative and clinical efforts. Quality, Research & Innovation Advance quality and safety initiatives by monitoring outcomes and national benchmarks in cardiovascular care. Oversee the clinical trial infrastructure to enhance access and strengthen the organization’s reputation in cardiovascular research. Integrate clinical research, education, and innovation into patient care. Collaborate with clinical and academic leaders to develop new educational offerings and clinical pathways. Leadership & Collaboration Work with the Division Chief of Cardiology to align faculty performance and recruitment with service line goals. Collaborate with the Surgical Co-Director, Department Chair, and senior leadership for unified strategic alignment. Act as a senior clinical leader, supporting credentialing and performance review processes. Promote the organization’s values of Innovation, Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence. Goals & Objectives In partnership with the Surgical Co-Director and Cardiology Division Chief, the Co-Director will: Create a compelling service line strategy to position the Heart & Vascular program as a leading regional and national destination. Enhance quality and safety outcomes to meet nationally recognized benchmarks. Strengthen recruitment and retention of physicians and advanced practice providers. Expand clinical research and innovation through increased clinical trials and investigator-initiated studies. Optimize clinical operations to improve efficiency and patient experience. Ensure consistent standards and coordinated patient care across all organizational entities. Enhance visibility and reputation through clinical excellence and community engagement. Required Qualifications: Board certified in Cardiology, holding an MD, DO, MD/PhD, DO/PhD, or equivalent. Academic credentials suitable for appointment as Professor. A minimum of 8 years of progressive leadership experience in an academic medical center or integrated health system. At least 2 years of people management experience with a proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams. Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, program development, and clinical operations across various settings. Strong business acumen, analytical skills, and marketing capabilities to drive growth and innovation. A proven track record of collaboration, mentorship, and fostering a culture of clinical and academic excellence.
