Sonographer (RDMS) registration with OB/GYN issued by the American
Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) Certifications:
Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification
issued by the American Heart Association Must-Have: Advanced
knowledge of fetal abnormalities and their diagnosis. Proficient in
performing scans of various anatomical areas and identifying
cross-sectional human anatomy, distinguishing normal from abnormal.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and patient service skills
to work effectively with physicians, patients, and other staff
members. Basic computer proficiency (e.g., email, electronic
medical records). Description: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM. No
weekends, no call, no holidays. Perform basic to advanced obstetric
diagnostic ultrasound imaging and procedures. Included procedures:
first trimester, nuchal translucency, anatomy, growth, dopplers,
biophysical profile, basic fetal echocardiography, transvaginal
ultrasound, portable imaging, amniocentesis, and chorionic villi
sampling (CVS). Select proper transducer and technical factors for
accurate ultrasound exams. Utilize non-standard techniques when
necessary, using independent judgment and ingenuity. Review medical
records to obtain necessary clinical information, including patient
history, lab results, and physician orders prior to examination.
Communicate with patients to obtain history data. Calibrate,
adjust, and maintain ultrasound equipment. Evaluate new products
and equipment for possible future use. Notify appropriate
departments when equipment failures occur. Participate in
department quality assurance studies. Prepare and maintain records
of ultrasound examinations, including documenting billing codes to
ensure accurate patient charges. Assist in the clinical instruction
of sonography students, OB/GYN residents, and medical students.
Perform various patient positioning and transporting duties,
utilizing proper technique. Demonstrate knowledge and skills
necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients
served. Demonstrate knowledge of principles of growth and
development over the life span. Assess data reflective of the
patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed
to identify each patient's age-specific needs. Provide care needed
as described in departmental policies and procedures.
