About this opportunity
The Cost Accountant is an integral member of the Plant Accounting Team and is responsible for all aspects of the physical inventory, month-end closing as it relates to inventory, journal entries, and manufacturing variances. The Cost Accountant drives continuous improvement efforts and makes recommendations for improvement.
What you will do
Analyze and evaluate weekly manufacturing variances including PPV, labor/OH absorption, WIP and inventory valuation and implement timely adjustments. Collaborate with the manufacturing operations to analyze variance and drive improvements.
Assist in developing standard costs for materials, labor and overhead.
Monitor collection and allocation of actual costs to work orders to ensure accuracy and compliance with company policies.
Reconcile the perpetual inventory before month end.
Assist with annual financial audits as it relates to inventory and standard costs.
Prepare month end journal entries manually & review for anomalies & inconsistencies.
Analyze and support inventory cycle counts to ensure accuracy and completeness. Follow through with Production Control to ensure that issues resulting from the cycle counts are properly resolved in a timely manner.
Coordinate the annual year-end physical inventory count and observation by external audit firm.
Prepare monthly inventory account reconciliations and identify why any unreconciled variances exist.
Assist in budget and forecast preparation and ensure timely completion.
Perform cost-benefit analyses as needed.
Investigate and report scrap on a monthly basis.
Review and reconcile the Gross Margin report monthly.
Run all month end reports and process inventory statistics.
Provide assistance where needed with month end close.
Assist in developing cost accounting procedures as needed.
What you have to offer
4-year degree in accounting, emphasis on managerial cost accounting preferred.
3-5 years of manufacturing accounting experience.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Great organizational skills, accuracy and attention to detail.
Excellent communication skills in the English language (reading, writing, listening and speaking).
Ability to work independently and in a team.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (focusing on Excel, Outlook & Word).
